British playwright Ray Cooney's Out of Order, renamed №13 in its Russian translation, had won a Laurence Olivier Award in 1991. It is a situation comedy gradually turning absurd. In it, Mr. Willy, a respectable Junior Cabinet Minister, lies to his wife that he is about to spend the night at the House of Commons over parliamentary debates, and instead makes a date with his young secretary. The latter's suspicious husband hires a private detective, who tries to follow the couple into the Westminster Hotel's luxury Suite №13 via the window – and gets struck senseless by a broken window frame. So the Minister unloads the "dead body" onto his wimp of an assistant, George Pigden.
Vladimir Mashkov's production, one of the most popular shows in Moscow, is one of the genuine treasures of today's Moscow Art Theater. Now in its ninth year, it continues to break box-office records.
